Web Based EH&S Assistant
The EH&S Assistant Web applications offers the research the ability to access their records via the Internet. The Web applications are used by the research staff P.I.'s and allow limited access to their own particular labs information. The security system controls which P.I.'s information is displayed. Security is controlled at both the server level and at the application level. A sign-on and password is required for entry into the program. The Environmental Health & Safety Department initiates sign-on and password information. The Web server does not have to be the same server as the database server. A simple configuration file tells the web application how to connect to the database server that contains the EH&S Safety data. The EH&S Assistant Web Application needs to reside on a server version of windows i.e. Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003 and using a stand a lone service or IIS.
The research staff P.I.'s will have access to the following:
The Web EH&S Assistant transfers information via the Internet to the Client-Server EH&S Assistant.
Principal Investigator (PI)
The P.I.'s will have the ability through access to the EH&S Assistant Web application to enter and edit his/her individual Biological, Chemical, or Radiological inventory. Fields open/editable to the P.I. consist of Building/Lab, Storage Location, Hazard lookup, Hazard Description, Hazard Class, Select agent designation, Storage Device, Quantity and Date. Once entry/edit is completed the record will be added to the database. The P.I. can then generate inventory reports for accuracy and verification.
The P.I.'s will also be able to request waste pickups through the web. The P.I.'s will have access to his/her individual training histories and training requirements on-line. Training records are "Read Only" information.
