The EH&S Assistant began as a simple database for tracking radioisotopes and grew into a powerful tool for clients to manage all aspects of their radiation safety programs and from there it expanded to include chemical and biological safety.
Those three modules formed the core of the EH&S Assistant, but as our customers' needs evolved, the EH&S Assistant did as well. The 4th generation of our software includes a suite of modules that cover every aspect of environmental health and safety, and we continue to develop new features and modules based on the feedback we receive from our clients.

Ergonomics Assistant
- The Waste Pick Up & Processing module builds on the inventory management capabilities in the Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Safety Assistants to allow for true cradle to grave tracking.
- Users create and register all waste locations on campus. When a PI or lab worker is finished with an inventory item it is then transferred into a waste container and location in the EH&S Assistant. Users can create custom waste profiles, and all waste containers are profiled based on hazard information of their contents. PI's can request a waste pick up through the EH&S portal, when the request is received it is assigned and a pick up is scheduled. All users with the proper rights can view the status of the waste pick up from submission to completion.
- Waste is tracked after it has been picked up and transferred to an accumulation or storage area, and users can create custom reports for waste removal vendors.
PI Inspection Assistant
- The Inspection process is started on a scheduled lab inspection. The inspection is conducted using the Web Based Tablet Inspection Assistant or a paper inspection form. At the end of the day the inspection results are uploaded or keyed into the Inspection Assistant.
- As an example the deficiency is noted, “The door is unlocked with a recommendation that a new lock must be installed”. Because of the nature of the material stored in this lab it is necessary to post a guard at the door until the lock is repaired.
- Once the deficiency is noted the inspector is asked do you want a written response? Clicking YES sends an open inspection result to the PI. The PI must have Web Based PI Inspection Assistant rights to access the Open Inspection Results. The PI now has access to the inspection results correction information allowing the PI the ability to respond to the deficiency noting the corrective action that has been taken.
- Sending the information via the Web to the client database will initiate the edit survey results section with the corrective action noted by the PI which is entered with the response, date corrected and corrected by noted.
Offline Inspection Assistant
- A web-based inspection application provides the ideal solution for managing a large inspection program. Inspectors and administrators have access to real-time data. Managers can easily assign, review, and approve inspections, and our inspections web portal easily facilitates communication between lab personnel, inspectors, and laboratory safety administrators. While a web-based solution is ideal, in the real-world internet access isn't always available in large research institutions. The offline Tablet Inspection Assistant offers an exact replica of all of your web-based PI Inspection Assistant in an offline application. Inspectors simply download the relevant inspection forms onto a mobile device, conduct their inspections as they would on the web-based program, and then upload the results into the EH&S Assistant when they are back in area with access to the internet. The uploaded inspection results can then be managed just like a web-based inspection.
Fire Safety Assistant
- Every year, fire suppression systems fail to operate satisfactorily in fire situations. In about one-third of these cases, the cause is inadequate inspection, testing and maintenance. The mission is to maintain the fire equipment, portable fire extinguishers, fire hoses, and pre-engineered fire suppression systems in compliance with all of the applicable codes and standards. Regular fire department inspections are no substitute for a fire protection equipment inspection and testing program.
Web Based Training Assistant
- Training programs are required by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) for all employees who work with hazardous substances including: chemicals, human blood, blood products, fluids, and human tissue specimens. Training is also required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for all personnel using radioactive materials or radiation producing equipment.
- Web Based Training (WBT) is an innovative approach to distance learning in which computer-based training (CBT) offers you the ability to train employees via the Internet. Web-based training presents live content, as fresh as the moment and modified at will, in a structure allowing self-directed, self-paced instruction in any topic. WBT is media-rich training fully capable of evaluation, adaptation, and remediation, all independent of computer platform. WBT can be implemented to teach or support virtually any skill within your organization. Employee growth is critical to every organization. WBT provides the most accessible means of training and updating your employees placing them all on the same page at the same time keeping skills up-to-date. The WBT Assistant allows your training program to be deployed quickly and economically, without complex installation costs and high upfront investments in hardware and technical staff.
- The Web Course Builder is where the rubber meets the road in Web Based Training course development. The Web Course Builder allows for the creation of the Web course from the training course material already in use at your institution or the creation of new course material. The foundation of the Web Course Builder is the information contained in your Client database. The Web Course Builder loads the training course information into the Web application from the Client database.
- Once the course(s) have been published to the Web and notification has been sent to the general institution population that Web courses are available, a regular schedule by the Net Trainer or Web Training Supervisor to monitor the Web students should be set. When a student takes a course and successfully completes the post course test, the results are posted to their individual training history.
Accident/Incident Assistant
- Our clients take safety seriously, but no amount of training or preventative measures can prevent 100% of accidents. The Accident/Incident Assistant streamlines the required documentation and reporting in the aftermath of an on the job accident or injury. Clients create custom questionnaires that can be tailored to specific incident categories. The information captured in those custom questionnaires is exported and used to populate pre-formatted report forms like OSHA 300, and EH&S administrators can use the data from the questionnaires to generate their own custom reports to identify areas of concern and take corrective action.
Emergency Response
- The primary purpose of the Emergency Response Incident Assistant (ERIA) is to report, provide support for facility emergency information, manage facility resources and initiate public warning and emergency notification in response to an emergency or disaster.
- The ERIA involves four main aspects; the basic information about the incident, recording crucial documents, notification of first responders and information about who is reporting the emergency.
Asbestos Management
- Locating, inspecting, documenting, and mitigating asbestos presents a significant challenge for facilities and health and safety personnel, and the notification and reporting requirements are often daunting.
- The Asbestos Management module is a tool to streamline and lighten the workload for campuses that are faced with asbestos issues. Administrators can create custom asbestos inspection lists, schedule and assign inspections to help identify areas of concern, schedule and assign regular re-inspection where asbestos has been found, review, accept or reject any inspection, and assign corrective action.
- In areas where it has been determined that asbestos mitigation is necessary, users can track the status of asbestos removal efforts.
Ergonomics Assistant
- Ergonomics is the study of people and their interaction with the elements of their job including equipment, tools, facilities, processes, and environment. It is a multidisciplinary field of study integrating industrial psychology, engineering, medicine, and design.
- In a more practical sense, ergonomics is the science of human comfort. When aspects of the work or workplace offend the human body, the result is often a musculoskeletal disorder (MSD). To help avoid MSDs, work demands should not exceed the physical capabilities of the worker.
- It should be the policy of all employers to provide all employees with a safe and healthy workplace. A proactive ergonomics program should be integrated into all company’s written safety and health program.
- The purpose of an ergonomics program is to apply ergonomic principles to the workplace in an effort to reduce the number and severity of MSDs, thus decreasing workers’ compensation claims and, where possible, increase productivity, quality, and efficiency. An ergonomically sound work environment maximizes employee comfort while minimizing the risk of undue physical stress.
