The Chemical Safety Assistant is a data management program for users of Controlled Substances and Hazardous Chemicals. The Chemical Safety Assistant is a unique computer software program designed to help the Chemical Safety Officer (CSO) or Industrial Hygienist efficiently meet federal, state and local requirements for managing the safe use of Controlled Substances and Hazardous Chemicals. The CS Assistant allows for the documentation of your Controlled Substance purchasing, receipt, use, waste disposal, real-time inventory, training records, lab surveys and audits, instrument inventory, including calibration records and locations as well as general information about your facility. In addition, creating timely reports to National, State, and local agencies is a very important benefit. Reports like Homeland Security, Tier Reporting, Fire Zone Reporting, as well as local emergency response reporting, saves EHS personnel a significant amount of time.
Inventory Verification
In addition to the reporting, there are inventory verification applications that will allow for the scanning of inventories. This verification process will highlight inventory stored in an incorrect storage location within a lab and chemicals stored in a location that is different from those specified in the database. The inventory verification will also point out chemicals stored in a lab that do not belong in the lab. This typically means that someone lent a chemical to another individual but did not record the exchange. The scanning process will indicate those compliance issues.
P.I./Lab Manager Connectivity
From a P.I.s perspective, the program is extremely powerful because it allows the P.I. the ability to register new workers, remove workers, add space and remove space, An example of a request to update an existing permit is shown under the Web Builder application.
Worker Registration
Options to request to register new workers or remove workers from a specific permit are also available. Once the registration or removal is complete, EHS will receive an email indicating that a worker has been removed or registered. It's the responsibility of EHS to review and approve but EHS is not required to re-enter the registration information. This worker registration is in lieu of using the Web Compliance Builder registration. Worker registration by that method requires an amendment added.
