On Site Systems has added new Mobile Access and QR Code features to complement its comprehensive lab placarding and door signage capabilities. The existing feature let both administrators and lab personnel create door signs using templates in the EH&S Assistant or based on custom layouts provided by a client. Door signs and placards displayed the information required by EH&S as well as local regulations, and the hazards, warnings, and other information could be generated automatically based on the lab record and permit information or added manually by users. In addition to hazard information door signs can display the after hours contact information for PIs, lab managers, or other responsible parties. In an emergency, this information can be crucial for first responders and EH&S personnel arriving on scene, however, in an era when data security is becoming more and more important, protecting a PI’s confidential information is also a priority.
With the new QR code feature publicly displayed placards can hide fields that may contain contact details or other information that may be sensitive. EH&S personnel will still be able to access that information by scanning a QR on the posted door sign and logging into the web application with their single sign on credentials. This new capability ensures that sensitive data remains secure, and at the same time, readily available for personnel with the proper credentials.
After scanning the QR code with a supported mobile device, the familiar log in screen will appear. This login will take you immediately to the lab/room designated in the scanned QR code and the menu below will be available.

Clicking on an emergency contact button pulls up the contact information for that user.
The contact options are links so that a responder does not have to enter a phone number or email address.
There is also a hazard view button that displays the hazard and PPE from the posted placard.
This new feature strikes an important balance between lab safety and data security and adds even more flexibility to the capabilities already in place and is available in the latest update to EHSA.
