Ergonomics

Picture
The purpose of an ergonomics program is to apply ergonomic principles to the workplace in an effort to reduce the number and severity of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), thus decreasing workers’ compensation claims and, where possible, increase productivity, quality, and efficiency.  An ergonomically sound work environment maximizes employee comfort while minimizing the risk of undue physical stress.

During the initial facility Ergonomic Management Assistant setup the Ergonomics Assessment Questionnaire is loaded into the system.  The questionnaire is a set of user defined assessment questions used by the Ergonomist to determine the level of discomfort when working, whether or not it is related to work.

The employee requests an Ergonomic Assessment via the Web with a detailed description of the employee’s job, work performed during a normal work day and the reason the request for the assessment is being submitted via the Ergonomic Assessment Questionnaire.

The Ergonomics Program Manager reviews the assessment and assigns the assessment to a facility Ergonomist for further review and consultation.  The questionnaire is used during a personal consultation by a campus ergonomists with the employee.  The questionnaire will help determine correct workstation set-up and postural habits, and make any recommendations for improvement.
